As we step into the New Year, you may be thinking about resolutions. Or, you might have already written your resolution list and started working your way through it, as soon as those bells tolled to ring in the new year. Either way, we thought we’d pull together four ways to help you kick off 2021 on a positive note.

Think about and appreciate all you’ve achieved in the last 12 months. Ask yourself what went well, how did I improve, what did I remove and what do I wish I’d made more time for? You can ask these questions about all the important areas of your life; family, friends, relationships, finances, career, the list is long! Then make a note of your questions and answers so you can reflect on them year after year. This should help you recognise and appreciate all you accomplished last year, and help set clear goals for this year.
Resolutions tend to focus solely on one year, but what about all those big goals you’d like to achieve in your lifetime? Take some time to think about those longer term goals. Think five years, or even ten years, ahead and what do you see for yourself – your own home in another country, taking a year out to travel the world, or maybe you see yourself running your own business. Write them all down, no matter if you think they are unlikely; you never know what the future holds.
Sounds easy to say, right? However, this is all about finding something which helps you to release the stress from your daily life. This could be going for a run whilst listening to your favourite music, reading a good book, having a long lie-in at the weekend; or just catching up with friends and having a good old download. Whatever helps you to relax, go ahead and make time to do it.
Those often small, but deliberate, actions you take to brighten someone else’s day really do bring happiness to the recipient and a feeling of positivity to you. You can do things like compliment a stranger or just give someone a smile. Why not pay for the next person’s coffee when you pick up yours in the morning. It really is the small things that can be a big difference.
“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” Rainer Maria Rilke
Make 2021 your year by starting, and maintaining, a positive note.
