Exam season is well and truly here. Whilst you’ve taught your students everything they need to know, and they have revised as much as they can, there are a few things they can do to keep calm on exam day that you can help them with.
Stop your students studying an hour before the exam
It’s too late in the day to get any more useful information into their heads. Encourage your students to use the hour before to relax. Maybe listen to some music or watch something on their phones. Anything that will keep them away from their study books will help them prepare for the exam.
Ensure they are at the location of the exam in plenty of time
Arriving late will mean students are anxious and flustered before they’ve even started! Ask them to arrive in plenty of time, and maybe offer to meet them all in one place beforehand.
Don’t talk about the exam before the exam
Talking about the exam immediately before the exam will increase anxiety. Encourage students to speak of other things, like what they will do after the exam.
Teach them to calm themselves
There is always the chance that an attack of panic could take hold in the exam. One way to overcome this is for the students to close their eyes, take several slow deep breaths, concentrate only on their breathing for a minute, and then return to their exam.
